1. Good news! My publisher passed along the news that The Adoration of Jenna Fox has been named a Book Sense "Top Ten" Book on their Summer 2008 Children's Picks List!

2. After much hesitation I watered the "Martha Stewart Bird Home" very carefully. The bird flew out, almost straight into me, but then--whew--went right back. I guess we have learned to live in harmony.

3. A while back I finally parted with the crib that both of my daughters used as babies. It was hard. But as we were throwing it away (since it is probably not safe by today's standards) I saved one panel. I had an idea for it. Before I put it to use I had my daughters pose with their former digs.

And then I planted the two flower vines next to it.

It will make a great trellis that will make me smile in ways an ordinary trellis couldn't.

Congratulations on the Top Ten list! That's great!

I LOVE what you did with the crib panel. I wish I'd thought of that! We parted with the crib a year ago. And we also had to throw it away because it's not safe by today's standards, which was hard enough for me in and of itself. I SO wish I had thought to use part of it like you did.

well, I just thought of it in the nick of time. My husband and I were literally at the dump chucking it out of the back of our car, and I had a lump in my throat and at the last minute I grabbed one panel to keep for the garden.

I don't think you'll find it this weekend. It's not out until Tuesday the 29th! But some booksellers may have it on their shelves early. I think sometimes the pub date is more of a "suggested" date : )

The 29th eh? Well. Since I'm in Canada and we're notoriously slower to get the books on the shelves, I'll keep my eye out for it. How exciting for you!

Mary, that's an amazing idea! My crib looks very similar to yours, too, so I just might stick mine in the garden.

Congrats on the Book Sense pick! I feel like the only person on the planet who hasn't read your phenomenal book yet. :)

It is a "Jenny Lind" style as I recall. I know those were very popular. ha! Maybe we will see a rash of crib trellises : )

Yes, I think that's what mine is! College friends bought it for us in Michigan.

I think you may have started a crib trellis trend! :)

Congratulations, Mary!! I'm looking forward to seeing you when you come to Milwaukee! Yeah!

I love the crib trellis. Great idea!! Last year, I snagged one of those groovy large wicker chairs from someone's trash, cut a hole in the seat and placed a flower pot with a vine in it. It was very cool! I wish I had a longer growing season here.

Your daughters are beautiful!

Congrats on the Booksense news! And those flowers look lovely (morning glories? They have a trumpet-esque shape. Very cute.)
